Water Contact Advisory for Broadford Lake
The Garrett County Health Department has issued a water contact advisory for Broadford Lake due to the presence of a blue-green algae (Microcystis) bloom. These naturally occurring blooms can produce toxins that may cause skin irritation, nausea, and other health effects if ingested or with prolonged contact. The swimming area at Broadford is closed until the advisory is lifted and pets should be kept away from the water.
The Town reaffirms that the Oakland drinking water supply remains clean, reliable, and safe. Oakland’s raw source water and processed drinking water are regularly tested in accordance with regulations and results continue to confirm that the drinking water remains safe for consumption.
The Town of Oakland will continue to coordinate with the Garrett County Health Department and other agencies to ensure public safety.
