Town of Oakland Announces the Reopening of the 4th Street Bridge
The Mayor and Town Council of Oakland are proud to announce the reopening of the 4th Street Bridge, a critical community connection that has been closed since June of 2024 during permitting and construction.
The bridge replacement was made possible through a coordinated effort between the Town of Oakland, state and federal permitting agencies, and Garrett County Government. Today, that effort has come to completion with a new, modern bridge that is now fully open to motorists, pedestrians, and emergency vehicles.
Mayor Andrew Sauder expressed appreciation for the milestone, stating: "The reopening of the 4th Street Bridge is a major success for Oakland. We know how important this connection is for residents and businesses, and we are grateful to everyone who worked so hard to bring this project to completion."
Special thanks are extended to the Garrett County bridge crew and paving crew, who worked tirelessly in all conditions to install the new structure. Their expertise, dedication, and persistence ensured the project was completed safely and on schedule.
The Town also thanks its residents and businesses for their patience during the closure.
