Winterfest Street Closures & Traffic Notice
Saturday, February 14

To help ensure a safe and enjoyable Winterfest for everyone, several downtown streets will be temporarily closed on Saturday, February 14.

Please plan ahead and allow extra time for travel in the area.

Street Closures

• Liberty Street — from 2nd Street to the B&O Train Station


• 2nd Street — from Liberty/Green Street to the railroad


• Alder Street — from 2nd Street to 3rd Street

Pedestrian Safety Notice

Traffic control cones will be placed to alert motorists to increased pedestrian crossings.

Cones will be located on:

• Oak Street
• 2nd Street (between the railroad and Oak)
• 3rd Street

Pedestrian crossings will be active at:

• Alder & 3rd Street
• 2nd & Oak Street

Winterfest brings families, visitors, and increased foot traffic downtown.

4th Street Traffic Pattern Change Rescinded

After receiving additional feedback from impacted residents, the Town of Oakland will not adjust the 4th Street traffic pattern as previously announced. The existing traffic pattern will remain in effect with the 4th Street bridge remaining closed until it is replaced in 2025.

4th Street Traffic Pattern Change

Beginning Monday, December 9, 2024, 4th Street will be closed to north and southbound traffic between Mitchell Manor and Brian F. Thomas Drive and the 4th Street bridge will be opened as a single lane. This revised traffic pattern will allow Mitchell Manor residents with access to Route 219 at a traffic light, while minimizing usage of the 4th Street bridge until it is replaced in 2025.

The 2024 Joy of Christmas Light Show at the Oakland Community Center, 14 N 8th Street Oakland, Maryland will start November 29 running from 5pm to 10pm nightly! The show starts at the top of each hour, with the last show starting at 9PM.

The show is created and produced from scratch by staff of The CHIPS Network in Oakland and is sponsored by several area businesses, individuals, and organizations.

At the October 7, 2024 public meeting, the Mayor and Town Council voted to introduce Ordinance 2024-04. The ordinance will increase Oakland water and sewer rates effective January 1, 2025. A public hearing for the ordinance’s adoption will be held during the November 4, 2024 5pm public meeting. To qualify, applicants must reside within the town limits of Oakland, be a registered voter, and be at least 21 years old. The selected candidate will serve until March 2026, the remainder of the vacant term.
